school cancellations

coating of snow this afternoon has led to several roll overs and some minor fender-benders on area roads and has forced several schools to cancel later events.

Accidents are reported on Routes 84, 17 and 52. No serious injuries are reported.

The Sullivan West, Tri-Valley, Liberty, Pine Bush and Ellenville school districts have all cancelled after school and evening events. The Nutcracker Festival at Tri-Valley has also been cancelled.

In Sullivan County it was reported that a motorist was traveling about 6 mph on Route 42 and causing a two-mile back up.

The National Weather Service is calling for a total daytime snow accumulation of less than one inch.

Tonight the forecast calls for a chance of snow showers. Cloudy, with a low around 23 with new snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

The weather gets better tomorrow with mostly sunny skies and a high near 37.
